Emma Bailey will give a lecture and slide show, "A Conversation with a Sociologist" at the Silver City Museum Annex on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 12 noon. The presentation is part of the Museum's ongoing series of free Brown Bag lunchtime presentations. The Museum Annex is located at 302 West Broadway, on the northwest corner of Broadway and Arizona, in the former PNM building.

Come hear humanist, environmental sociologist, Dr. Emma Bailey, talk about the environmental sociology and social justice - the keystone xl pipeline.  What's the controversy and what are tar sands and this proposed pipeline anyway? What role have social protests (such as idlenomore and 350.org) played in changing the course of the keystone pipeline?

With a PhD from the University of Denver, Professor of Sociology, Emma Bailey, has been at WNMU for eight years.  Previously, she served three years as an assistant professor of sociology at St Cloud State University.  Emma is not only a faculty member in the department of Social Sciences, she is also a founding faculty member and instructor for the new Environmental Sustainability bachelor’s degree program.  In addition to her duties in the classroom, Emma currently serves as the President of the Faculty Senate at WNMU.  In 2010, Emma was the president of the Association for Humanist Sociology-a national sociological association that seeks to use sociology for people, as well as the larger needs of the planet.  She is also an Associate Editor for the journal Humanity and Society.
