Customers are urged to Boil Water Prior to Drinking

(Santa Fe, N.M.) -The New Mexico Environment Department's (NMED) Drinking Water Bureau has issued a “precautionary boil water advisory” for the Maxwell Water System.

NMED issued the precautionary advisory on February 11, 2013 due to water supply issues resulting in low pressures within the distribution system. The Maxwell Water System is located approximately 15 miles north of Springer, NM in Colfax County. NMED recommends that the Maxwell Water System notify water consumers of the precautionary advisory. This advisory only applies to drinking water for the Maxwell Water System and does not extend to any of the other surrounding water systems. The drinking water system serves a population of approximately 350 people.

The Maxwell Water System water consumers are advised to seek an alternate source of drinking water, such as bottled water, or boil the water for five minutes before drinking, cooking and dishwashing. This is a precautionary advisory only as no contamination has been detected in the drinking water system at this time.

The NMED Drinking Water Bureau will continue to provide technical assistance to the water system and require the Maxwell Water System to test the water to ensure no contamination has occurred during the this low pressure occurrence.
