Silver City, NM – Western New Mexico University’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has moved its offices to Watts Hall located on the corner of 18th and Swan Streets in Silver City.

“Our team is excited to open our doors to aspiring entrepreneurs, as we have for the past 20 plus years,” said Bruce Ashburn, SBDC Director. “Our new location places us at the busiest intersection in Silver City and this gives our community an opportunity to get to know us all overagain.”

SBDC advisors assist entrepreneurs who desire to start a small business by working with them to create business plans and other start up materials that often are key to getting funding for new businesses. Advisors are trained to work with business owners who are ready to expand their business, or to be of assistance with other issues that may arise for an entrepreneur. The services are available at no cost.

The center offers community workshops facilitated by regional and statewide leaders. The next SBDC workshop is scheduled for Thursday, March 21. William Debricky from PTAP (Procurement Technical Assistance Program) will walk through the basic steps in how to get started in government business. On Thursday, April 25, Ashburn will facilitate a workshop on how to create a business plan. Both workshops will be held at Watts Hall.

Familiar businesses who partnered with the SBDC prior to opening their doors include Alotta Gelato, The Curious Kumquat and Bear Mountain Lodge.
