Washington, DC (March 1, 2013) – Today, U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce formally invited Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke to come to New Mexico to hear from New Mexicans on inflation and the economy, and see firsthand the impact of the Fed’s monetary policy actions.

Pearce invited Bernanke to New Mexico in person on Wednesday during a hearing of the House Committee on Financial Services: “I would invite you to come and sit with me at an open town hall in New Mexico,” Pearce told Bernanke.  “I would take that as a very positive sign that you would be interested in talking to people on that end of the economic ladder.”

Inflation, Pearce explained in the hearing, is “eating the lunch of our seniors, who can’t afford to fill their fuel tanks, and buy groceries.”  Pearce told Bernanke that seniors in New Mexico are “furious with the government.  They say, ‘we lived our life right.  We paid off our homes.  We put money into the bank.  We had a nest egg…and now, our government is bragging that we have zero interest.  And we are being punished after living our lives correctly.’”

Congressman Pearce’s office has followed up on the invitation with a formal letter to Chairman Bernanke.
