Public Information Meeting NM 159 vehicle length restrictions study & analysis, Mogollon

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is leading the NM 159 Vehicle Length
Restrictions Study and Analysis. With the study, an analysis was conducted to see how
different types of vehicles navigate a portion of NM 159 (MP 3.0 to 9.5). Based on the analysis,
recommendations were made with the aim of improving safety for all vehicles traveling through.

Ted Presler to speak at Rotary Meeting

Ted Presler will be the Rotary speaker on October 3, 2023. Presler’s topic will be: “Southwest Word Fiesta Updates and Information.” Presler was an early member of the Festival of the Written Word (now Southwest Word Fiesta), served as co-chair in 2020-2021, and continues to be an active member. The Fiesta was created to celebrate authors who live and work in the Southwest, and will be held at the Murray Hotel, 7-8 p.m. with John Burnett, retired correspondent for NPR as the keynote speaker.
The Rotary meeting will be held at the Silver Bowling Center, Ten Pin Lounge at 2020 Memory Lane, Silver City from 12-1 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public. If you desire lunch, order from the menu in the cafeteria and it will be delivered to your table.

Silver City Public Library Hosts Presentations
by the New Mexico Office of the Attorney General
The Silver City Public Library will host two special public presentations by the New Mexico Office of the Attorney General. On Thursday, October 5, an expert will speak about youth internet safety, and on Friday, October 6, a member of the southern New Mexico Human Trafficking Task Force will speak about the issue of human trafficking
.
The Las Cruces office of the New Mexico Attorney General will offer an informative presentation on Cyber Safety on Thursday, October 5, 4:00pm via Zoom, also viewable at the Silver City Public Library in the large meeting room. The presentation is geared towards parents, grandparents, and other caregivers of children and teens; but is informative for anyone. Attendees will learn how to help kids stay safe online and avoid exploitation. “While preparing for this event, the Attorney General’s office informed me that a common online threat is the exploitation of children and teens for nude photos. We are glad to be able to host their expert, who will help adults know how to recognize internet safety problems,” explained Lillian Galloway, programming and outreach librarian. Community members can join virtually, or stop by the library to view the presentation on a large screen.
The New Mexico Office of the Attorney General will also give a presentation on Human Trafficking on Friday, October 6, 3:00pm at the Silver City Public Library. A member of the Human Trafficking Task Force for southern New Mexico will present facts about human trafficking, what community members should know, and what efforts are made to combat trafficking. Trost has an impressive body of work, notably in collaboration with husband Jeremy Barnes (Neutral Milk Hotel) on their own record label Living Music Duplication, and their Eastern European folk-influenced band A Hawk And A Hacksaw, where she sings, plays violin, autoharp, and more. Trost has recorded with dozens of artists, including Josephine Foster, Thor and Friends, Claire Cronin, and Swans.
