This month's "Monday Meeting With The Mayor" will be at

Wrangler’s Bar and Grill located at 2005 US-180 in the back dining room, on Monday, August 7th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Please note that this Monday With The Mayor is being held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM to give those who are unable to attend the usual early morning meeting times, an opportunity to participate.

All are invited to stop by anytime between 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. and share  your insights and ideas with Mayor Ladner and enjoy a soda or cup of coffee, compliments of the mayor.

Gila Friends Meeting -anniversary of the atomic bombings

GilaFriendsMeet2016 commemoration of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by Gila Friends Meeting (Quakers), held in Gough Park, Silver City, New Mexico with participants from Grant County, Las Cruces, and El Paso. The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki will be commemorated at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2023 in the pavilion at Gough Park in Silver City, New Mexico, at the corner of 12th and North Pope Streets, according to an announcement by the Gila Friends Meeting (Quakers). This ceremony of remembrance will begin with a period of silent worship, followed by an opportunity to share reflections in an atmosphere of reverence and respect. All are welcome. Participants are asked to bring their own chairs. Before and after the ceremony, participants may view historical posters on the development, decision making, and effects of the atomic bombings.

Help CPC (Community Partnership for Children) Color Our Future Bright for Grant County Families! Register Today!

Silver City, NM – August 2, 2023 – Community Partnership for Children (CPC) calls on all Grant County residents to help color the future bright for our community’s children! CPC is a non-profit dedicated to promoting excellence in the care and development of young children. CPC works with the state to build affordable, accessible, and quality programs for families of children birth to five years of age in Grant County. 

CPC will host a Color Run fundraiser on Saturday, September 16th from 10 AM to 3 PM at Bataan Memorial Park, Santa Clara. The event will be called the CPC’s September Spectac-Color Fun Run and its proceeds will ensure that all children in our community have access to quality and affordable early education and care.

NHD Students to speak to Rotary

NHDSome of the 19 Silver High students who qualified for the National History Day competition held at the University of Maryland on June 3, 2023, will be the Rotary speakers on August 8, 2023. Their two counselors, Claudie Thompson and Lee Wilson will also be present.

The students will report on the projects they presented and also tell of some of the places they visited in the Washington, D.C. area.

The venue will be the Silver Bowling Center, Ten Pin Lounge, 2020 Memory Lane, Silver City, from 12-1 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public. If lunch is desired, please order and pay at the café counter and your order will be delivered to your table.

Caller from Alpha Alarm advised about a smoke detector. Officer advised to cancel fire/they lost power/call PNM/downed power line that caused a small fire/PNM on scene.

Welfare check
1101 Tom Foy Blvd.
Male in a Suburban arguing with a female and another passenger/had pushed female into the vehicle. Third caller stated the male was hitting his girlfriend/vehicle left driving toward Santa Clara. XCPD officer went traffic with vehicle/negative on anyone arrested or in unit/father-in-law in vehicle.

Caller advised he was woken up by his dogs and he saw a subject in a car in his yard/vehicle left. Deputy made contact with caller and set up frequent patrol for next month.

Injuring/tampering with motor vehicle
Ponderosa Street – Sunrise Estates
One of his tires was slashed/believe it was the same person who did B&E earlier. Deputy had contact with caller.

Accident-property damage
S. Highway 90 – MM 22 (1 mile south of Continental Divide)
Caller hit a deer/unknown where deer is/caller is in a Lexus.

A named female is assaulting staff and has already kicked a security guard. Officer advised one female in unit to the Gateway in Hurley.

Dead skunk in caller's backyard/will leave the double gate open. Left message to Tyler.

Welfare check
Old Shoe Dept
Male collapsed in front of building/doesn't look well and is flopping around. Officer advised to cancel EMS1 and R2/male is up and walking and does not want to be treated.

Grant County Art Guild was founded 55 years ago

The Grant County Art Guild was founded 55 years ago this August and we are celebrating with an Open-House /Anniversary party at our gallery in Silver City, NM. 

Everyone is invited. August 4, 2023 - 5-7 pm

The Guild is a non-profit organization whose mission is to increase art awareness in the community while supporting local art and artists.

During the open house we will display the art of 35 local artists and artisans working in a wide range of mediums.

The GCAG Gallery is in the historic Hester House at 316 N Bullard in Silver City, NM (Look for the big purple building!)
