(ALBUQUERQUE, NM) – PNM is greeting the New Year with new solar and new wind energy. Starting at midnight tonight, the 102-megawatt Red Mesa Wind Center is set to start pumping energy onto the PNM grid whenever the wind blows. PNM has just added three new tracking solar centers that are now producing energy and increasing the amount of solar capacity on the PNM system by over 33 percent.

Red Mesa, PNM's second wind energy source, is located approximately 60 miles west of Albuquerque in Cibola County. Red Mesa consists of 64 turbines standing 262 feet tall and has the potential to provide the energy used by 29,000 homes.

PNM's newest solar centers are located in Cibola, Sandoval and Valencia Counties. Together with the company's eight existing solar centers they can produce the energy used by 23,425 homes.

PNM will build four more solar centers in 2015. By the end of the New Year, PNM's solar, wind and geothermal energy sources will provide the energy used by 150,000 average residential customers.
