ALBUQUERQUE, NM, April 23, 2015 - Earlier today, USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner dedicated the new Rural Development office at the USDA service center in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

The office is located in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Service Center at 760 Stern Drive Suite #139 on the south side of Las Cruces. The facility houses staff which provide financial service for housing, business and infrastructure throughout the southern and southwest part of the state.

During the open house Brunner told visitors, "There is a lot of need in southern New Mexico which our agency can address with financial support." Brunner added, "I encourage local residents to come by our new office and ask our staff about our housing, utilities, business and other programs."

In the last five years, USDA Rural Development has done $1.3 billion dollars in business throughout rural New Mexico with more than $52 million obligated in Doña Ana County. For example, in that time the agency has provided millions of dollars for various projects in southern New Mexico including; new solar systems in the Silver City area. Money was also obligated for various water and wastewater projects throughout the Colonias along the Mexican border. And, millions of dollars has been spent which allowed hundreds of families achieve the dream of homeownership.

Residents are encouraged to visit the Las Cruces Rural Development office to get more information on all programs including; business development, home loans and funding to renovate a house, infrastructure needs, funding for energy efficiency projects and community projects.

President Obama's plan for rural America has brought about historic investment and resulted in stronger rural communities. Under the President's leadership, these investments in housing, community facilities, businesses and infrastructure have empowered rural America to continue leading the way - strengthening America's economy, small towns and rural communities. USDA's investments in rural communities support the rural way of life that stands as the backbone of our American values.
