Salt Flat, TX - Dog Canyon will reopen July 7, 2015 for visitor use. "I'm glad we can once again open Dog Canyon and welcome our visitors back to hike and experience this part of the park. With recent rains, the canyon is green and ready for visitors to enjoy a wonderful afternoon outdoors," said Guadalupe Mountains National Park Superintendent Eric Brunnermann. Opening has been delayed due to inclement weather conditions and construction delays. The area has been closed since January, 2015 to replace the water system. The replacement project involved installing a new 50,000-gallon, glass-lined water tank, new distribution lines, pumps and valves.

At this time, all trails are open for hiking and backpacking, as well as trails for stock use. Dog Canyon campgrounds and all front and backcountry are open to visitors. When enjoying park trails always remember to bring sturdy hiking boots, hat, sunscreen, snacks and plenty of water.

Park information, including park conditions, closures, restrictions, weather and program information are available on the park's website www.nps.gov/gumo or by telephone at (915) 828-3251 ext. 2124.

The Pine Springs Visitor Center is open daily, except December 25, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
