Albuquerque, NM-- The following statement has been issued by Amy Dowd, CEO of the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange (NMHIX) in response to the Blue Cross Blue and Shield of New Mexico announcement:

"Following the recent announcement by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico, we want all New Mexicans to know that there will still be plenty of choices for consumers looking for individual health insurance coverage during Open Enrollment this fall," said Amy Dowd, CEO of the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange (NMHIX).

"Many New Mexicans may not realize they may qualify for cost savings only offered through the Exchange, we encourage New Mexicans who are looking for individual coverage or have a question about this change to contact us. NMHIX has more than 500 agents, brokers and enrollment counselors across the state available - free of charge - to assist consumers in finding a plan that works best for their family and budget."

New Mexicans currently enrolled in BCBSNM individual plans will see no change in their coverage for 2015. However, individuals enrolled in BCBSNM plans will need to select a new plan with a new carrier during the upcoming Open Enrollment period, which begins on November 1, 2015, for coverage beginning on January 1, 2016.

More than 500 NMHIX certified agents, brokers and enrollment counselors are available free of charge to assist consumers with finding a plan that fits their needs and their budgets.
