The business received funding from USDA Rural Development's Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) to offset the cost to install the solar power system which now provides almost 100 percent of the electricity used by the business.ALBUQUERQUE, NM, July 27, 2016 - This afternoon, USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner presented a certificate of congratulations to Ms. Mary Woodson owner of the Bar C Metal Roofing Supplies, Inc. in Pojoaque, New Mexico for being the latest to receive funding through USDA Rural Development's Rural Energy for America Program The money was used to offset the cost to install a solar power system to her office complex.

"We are pleased to honor this business for installing a new solar power system," said Brunner. "Bar C Metal Roofing Supplies is already seeing a saving in its energy bill and this project is a good example how a small business is doing its part to lower their carbon emissions significantly and reduce overall operating costs -- which ultimately will make our country more energy independent."

Brunner presented Bar C Metal Roofing Supplies a certificate of congratulations for receiving $14,153 from USDA Rural Development's REAP program. The funding provided by USDA Rural Development offset the $66,605 cost to install the solar power system at the business. Since its installation two months ago, the electric bill dropped from an average of $400 per month to $15.00 a month.

USDA Rural Development's Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) program was created by Congress to help farmers, ranchers and small rural businesses access financial support to purchase renewable energy systems and to make energy efficiency improvements. The REAP program can provide a grant of up to twenty-five percent of the cost to install a renewable energy system or energy efficient equipment. The funding can be used for:
