SOCORRO, N.M. - New Mexico State University will host a pesticide applicators workshop from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the Cooperative Extension Service office, 198 Neel Avenue in Socorro.

"This workshop is for anyone who holds either a private or commercial pesticide applicator license," said John Allen, Socorro County Extension agricultural agent. "It's important for pesticide applicators to remain up to date on rules and regulations as well as proper use and safety of chemicals they use."

Topics will include New Mexico insects of interest, what's up with the salt cedar beetles, plant biology and weed identification, hard water and herbicide efficiency, and pesticide rules and regulations update.

Presenters will be Carol Sutherland, Extension entomologist; Leslie Beck, Extension weed specialist; and Jack Blandford, Luna County Extension agricultural agent.

Applicators completing the workshop will earn five continuing education units required to be eligible for license renewal.

"The workshop will provide continuing education credits on topics that are specific to New Mexico pests," Allen said.

To register, call 575-835-0610 or email Allen at allenj@nmsu.edu.
