Washington, DC (November 16, 2016) This morning, Senate Democrats announced Senator Udall and Senator Heinrich will lead the Indians Affairs Committee and Joint Economic Committee, respectively, for the Senate minority. Congressman Pearce welcomes members of the New Mexico Delegation being named to key positions in the Senate and issued a statement following the announcement:

"The announcement this morning naming Senator Udall and Senator Heinrich to top spots has tremendous potential for New Mexico. I look forward to working with them to advance the values and policies important and beneficial to the lives of the New Mexican people.

"Under Senator Udall's leadership at the Indian Affairs Committee, our offices have a wonderful opportunity to continue promoting strong legislation and solutions to serious issues and impediments facing tribal communities in New Mexico. From improving health care and service, and protecting against the theft and illegal sale of cultural and religious items, to further upgrading and expanding housing development and ensuring economic opportunity on tribal lands - there are a number of issues our offices will be able to address immediately. Growing seniority in the Senate will increase Tom's ability of delivering for our state.

"With Senator Heinrich leading the way on the Joint Economic Committee, our delegation has a real opportunity to bring to light the burdensome regulations and rules crushing development and growth in New Mexico. Working together, our Delegation will be stronger than ever. These appointments combined with the opportunity to set the agenda and direction for our State with a new Administration brings me great hope for the Congress to come.

"Again, I congratulate my fellow New Mexicans in the Senate, and cannot wait to hit the ground running to better our State," said Pearce.
