The New Mexico State Police is now accepting applications for our upcoming lateral academy scheduled to begin May 21, 2017.

The State Police lateral academy is a seven week academy offered to already certified officers. The lateral academy will equip certified officers with the instruction and additional training hours required to become a New Mexico State Police officer.

The New Mexico State Police lateral academy is open for individuals with prior law enforcement experience and having the below qualifications.

  1. Must be twenty-one years of age. There is no upper age limit.
  2. Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  3. Must be a United States citizen.
  4. Minimum of three years' law enforcement experience as a certified officer. If currently separated from law enforcement, this separation must not have exceeded one year in length.
  5. Active duty military police applicants must have successfully completed a basic military police course and completed a four year enlistment as a military police officer in the US Army, US Marine Corps, US Air Force, or US Navy.
