WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 16, 2013) - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) released the following statement in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day:

"Martin Luther King Jr. gave a voice to the marginalized and oppressed and inspired a nation to stand up against racism and hate. His lessons of compassion and intolerance for injustice ring especially true today. May we rekindle Dr. King's resounding spirit in our neighborhoods and communities across the nation as we continue to work toward alleviating prejudice, poverty, and violence, and create a better future for our children and all future generations."
