ALBUQUERQUE, NM - The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has posted a recall by AM Conservation Group of luminescent night lights that can overheat, posing a potential fire hazard. Some of the recalled model of night lights were included in approximately 3,100 energy conservation kits distributed to fifth grade classrooms across New Mexico in the spring of 2017 as part of the PNM Home Works program. The national firm that recalled this product is aware of 14 incidents of the night lights smoking or smoldering, but none known in New Mexico. No injuries have been reported.
"Our number one concern is the safety of our customers, and we urge the families of students who received a night light as part of the program to check to see if they have one in their home," said PNM Vice President of External Affairs, Becky Teague.
This recall only affects one model number, Model 2017-G. It is a square-shaped night light with a rounded top. The night light glows green when plugged into an electrical outlet. The back of the night light has a metallic sticker with the "UL" logo on it. If the UL label has a number on it beginning with the letter "H" or "I" followed by seven numbers, it is included in this recall.
Notification letters of this recall are being sent to teachers and parents of these schools. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that consumers immediately stop using the recalled night lights. A postage-paid envelope will be provided to recipients to return the recalled night light. Replacement LED night lights will be sent to affected customers to replace the recalled luminescent night lights
