Albuquerque, NM - BeWellnm, New Mexico's Health Insurance Exchange, is pleased to announce that Dr. Martin Hickey has joined its Board of Directors in June 2017. Dr. Hickey brings over 40 years of healthcare service and management experience. This is Dr. Hickey's second time to join the beWellnm Board of Directors, having successfully served a previous term.

Dr. Hickey is currently the Chief Executive Officer of New Mexico Health Connections. He also has experience as a CEO with Albuquerque's Lovelace Health Systems and Alegent Health Clinic in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Hickey is a graduate of the Rush Medical College in Chicago. He also earned his master's degree in administrative medicine from the University of Wisconsin, and completed a residency in primary care internal medicine at the University of Rochester.

"Dr. Hickey has extensive knowledge and experience in a variety of health care services. His experience will help steer us in a direction that will help us better operate New Mexico's health insurance exchange and most important, help us meet New Mexican's needs. He will be a great asset to our board." said Dr. J.R. Damron, Chair of the beWellnm Board of Directors.

In 2013, The New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange Act formed the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange, and a board of directors was appointed. Pursuant to NMSA 1978 Section 59A-23F-3(E), Dr. Hickey has been appointed to the beWellnm board of directors by Speaker of the House, Representative Brian Egolf.
