Taos, New Mexico –The prestigious NMAC Glass Flame Award was presented by the NMAC Board of Directors to ten elected officials, for their contributions to improve the quality of life in New Mexico for all citizens, at the NMAC Board of Directors meeting in Taos, New Mexico, on Thursday, June 22, 2017. The Board members honored for their service include: Bernalillo County Assessor Tanya Giddings, Chaves County Commissioner James Duffey, Colfax County Commissioner Bill Sauble, Guadalupe County Clerk Patrick Martinez, Lincoln County Clerk Rhonda Burrows, Rio Arriba County Commissioner Barney Trujillo, Roosevelt County Sheriff Malin Parker, Sierra County Commissioner Kenneth C. Lyon, Union County Clerk Mary Lou Harkins, and Hidalgo County Commissioner Marianne Stewart.

"It is with gratitude and appreciation that NMAC bids farewell to these outstanding leaders and honors them with the prestigious Glass Flame Award for their public service and representation on the NMAC Board of Directors," said Steve Kopelman NAMC Executive Director. "These elected officials truly deserve to be recognized and commended for the time, energy, and sacrifice they have made on behalf of their counties and constituents." Members of the NMAC Board of Directors meet six times annually and attend numerous legislative hearings, public meetings, and set policy direction for NMAC which represents all thirty-three New Mexico counties.

Founded in 1936 and incorporated in 1968, NMAC is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization governed by New Mexico county elected officials and employees. Its mission is to strengthen New Mexico counties' ability to govern their own affairs and to improve the well-being and quality of life of their constituents. It provides counties with legislative representation, research, training, and assistance in improving the administration and financing of county government.
