“Los Alamos is an ideal destination for a Spring Break trip,” said Kelly Stewart, Marketing Manager for Los Alamos County. “There’s so much more than meets the eye, and in addition to being an affordable and easy-to-plan getaway, the area is full of adventures to help you unwind, explore and genuinely get your mind off of the stress of everyday life. With a ski mountain, over 150 miles of trails, National Park sites, museums, great places to eat, and a world-class planetarium, there’s an ‘aha!’ moment for everyone in the family.”

With a variety of indoor and outdoor adventures, Los Alamos is the hidden gem of the Southwest. To make the most of your spring break, be sure to check out the following:

Party at Pajarito with the 70th Annual Ski-esta! This long-standing annual spring break party on Pajarito Mountain will be celebrating its 70th anniversary this March on St. Patrick’s Day. On March 17, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., the lively event features beer from six New Mexico craft breweries, skiing events, live music from Escape on a Horse, a costume contest and more. Skiesta is a fun and unique event designed to celebrate the mountain culture of Los Alamos, and is a favorite of locals and visitors alike. Crawl through time and experience the wonder of “Aha Moments.” At Bandelier National Monument, you can experience life as a cliffdweller, just like the Ancestral Pueblo people. Hiking trails and ladders allow visitors to explore archeological sites, including ancient dwellings tucked into the natural recesses of steep-walled canyons. If you visit on April 21, you can enjoy the park fee-free in honor of National Park Week.

Uncover the secrets of the past in the “Secret City.” Known as the place where discoveries are made, Los Alamos has a rich history as the “town without a name” and the “Manhattan Project.” For decades, the town has been the site of world-changing science and has made its place in the history books for the pivotal role it played in World War II. Now, you can discover the secrets of the past at Manhattan Project National Historical Park. Taking the Atomic City bus tour, the Historic Walking Tour, the Homestead Tour, the Spy Tour, or a tour guided by the “Los Alamos Secret City of the Manhattan Project” app, you can immerse yourself into the history of Los Alamos. Find your way to the historic buildings and features that bring the history of Los Alamos to life: the Bradbury Science Museum, Ashley Pond, the historic Fuller Lodge and Art Center, and the Los Alamos History Museum, which now includes the Romero Homestead Cabin, the Harold Agnew Cold War Gallery in the Hans Bethe House and an Ancestral Pueblo Site. Admission is $5.

“When planning your Spring Break trip, you want to check off items from everyone’s bucket list, and in Los Alamos, there are a number of great adventures that await for history lovers, budding scientists, outdoor lovers and more,” added Stewart. “Los Alamos is the place where discoveries are made, and your discovery is waiting this spring.”
