Outdoor Galleries are Popping Up in Old Bisbee!

Bisbee, AZ -- Take Mom out for the day – treat her to a massage, find deals on handmade and vintage jewelry, and reserve a meandering open air tour through Old Bisbee. Most shops open at 10 am. Or, stay late with friends after an early dinner and wander from venue to venue along the artwalk route, taking in the art galleries and shops that stay open until 8 pm. There are several new exhibits to enjoy, including ones that have "popped up" outside! Check out what's happening on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 10 am to 8 pm as over 35 businesses stay open late.

Events & Openings

Sense of Place Gallery will feature the work of two artists during the month of May. Lisa Wines brings a twist of humor to her artwork with Dick and Jane. Come view the familiar friends from learning-to-read books who seemed too good to be true in a landscape of interesting and fun collages! Kenny Gaynor gathers items found from all over southern Arizona and creates unique decorative works with them. Peace signs, rustic crosses, tables, wind chime, and many other interesting pieces are sure give your home a unique experience as part of the décor! See you at 63C Brewery Avenue.

Bisbee Massage and Beyond, located at 49 Main Street, will celebrate their GRAND OPENING on the 12th, and you're invited! Starting at 10 am with a ribbon cutting ceremony, please stop by and check out the newly remodeled studio. Meet Denise and Frances to find out how massage can help you live your best life. From 5 to 8 pm during the artwalk, chair massages will be offered for $1 per minute. Mother's Day gift certificates are also available. We can't wait to meet you!

The Magic of May will shine through the artwork on display at the Subway Gallery on May 12th with a collection of work by the members in its newest location at 43 Brewery Gulch. Bursting onto the Bisbee landscape in1986, the gallery was initially located on Subway Street. The name stayed as the gallery moved to new locations. It is the oldest collective gallery in Bisbee! Two of the original members, Manny and Danielle Martinez, remain members of the gallery. Both are primarily ceramicists who paint as well. Danielle's collection of hand-painted watercolor cards is very popular. Paul and Steve Bovee -- the Bovee Brothers -- are local favorites whose brilliant colors will be on display. Gene Elliston's whimsical watercolors and chalk drawings, as well as photographs by Dick Hyman and Carole Beauchamp, will be shown. Carole also has a collection of cards. Margo Macartney's work is largely ceramic, but includes oil monoprints. Monte Surratt's large canvas oil work brightens the walls. Shawn Burr, our newest member, displays his unique ceramic chandeliers that continue to highlight our windows.

The "New Works" show by Jan Searle and Marcella Lubian continues at the Tang Gallery, 32 Main Street, through June 7th. Both artists use bold colors as they explore new subjects and media.

The Broadway Stairs isn't the only outdoor gallery in Bisbee anymore – stop by the Convention Center parking lot (behind the Bisbee Publishing Co. building) to see the new monthly Pop-Up Art Gallery! Featured this month is the work of local artist Monti Eaton. Join in this first pop-up event by the Bisbee Tour Company in which you can see some of Eaton's most recent work.
