Eagle Nest, NM – Eagle Nest Lake Dam is 100 years old! To celebrate this historic event, the Village of Eagle Nest in conjunction with the Friends of Eagle Nest Lake State Park and Cimarron Canyon State Park are hosting various family-oriented events beginning July 1 through July 7.

July 1 – Paddle It! at Eagle Nest Lake State Park - Canoe, Kayak, and SUP (Stand Up Paddle Board) Event. Late registration begins at 7 a.m. and paddling starts at 8:30 a.m. at Eagle Nest Lake in front of the State Park Visitor Center.

July 4 – Pack a picnic and bring the family to Eagle Nest Lake State Park for the Firework Extravaganza over the water at dusk. (Show may be subject to change due to extreme fire danger.)

July 7 – Play in the cool mountain air at the Amateur Disc Golf Tournament at Eagle Nest Lake State Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the park's visitor center group shelter (Starter Shack) located at 42 Marina Way, Eagle Nest. The tournament will start 9 a.m. and the estimated finish is noon. This is a free event!

• Categories: Youth – 17, Adult 18 - 39, Adult 40 - 54, Senior 55+
• Token Trophies in each category for: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place
• Prizes: Disc golf merchandise prize pool valued at approximately $350
• Bring your own discs or purchase INNOVA DX Custom Commemorative discs ($15 & $20 each) or rent discs at $2 per disc or $5 for three discs with a $20 rental deposit for up to three discs.
• NM State Park Regulations apply. Day Use Permit $5 per day per vehicle.

After a fun-filled day at the lake, on Saturday night, July 7, join us for the Star Party at Eagle Nest Lake State Park Visitor Center at 8:45 p.m.

Eagle Nest Lake State Park and the disc golf course are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Score cards with the course layout are available in the Visitor Center which has limited hours and can be reached at 575-377-1594. This is the first disc golf course in a New Mexico State Park and is the result of collaborative work between New Mexico State Parks and Friends of Eagle Nest Lake and Cimarron Canyon State Parks. This 2,771-foot course is at an elevation more than 8,000 ft. and has nine baskets.

Twenty-nine out of thirty-four state parks remain open and reservations are available at many of these parks. In addition, park visitors are reminded that all parks are under fire restrictions. To learn more about state park fire restrictions, please visit www.nmparks.com.
