Celebrate Fall Like a Lumberjack in Cloudcroft, New Mexico

Cloudcroft, NM – August 29, 2018 – Cloudcroft, New Mexico—known as the destination for breathtaking scenery, high elevation and rich history—offers visitors and locals alike a chance to be a lumberjack for a day this September. Taking place on Saturday, September 15th, the Lumberjack Festival will feature a full day of competitions, fun activities, and entertainment for the whole family.

Coinciding with the Lumberjack Festival is the annual Fall Art Show, which features art for display and purchase from local artists—many of whom draw inspiration from the surrounding vibrant mountain colors and scenery of the Village of Cloudcroft. In addition to fine art on display, there will be food vendors.

"For those looking to enjoy a fall getaway this year, the Lumberjack Festival is one-of-a-kind," said Tabitha Davis, President of the Cloudcroft Chamber of Commerce. "Competitors have the chance to experience a taste of mountain life and show their strength through fun challenges, and spectators can enjoy the festive nature of the events. The Fall Art Show is an incredible display of local art, offering a chance to learn about and purchase handmade wares and pieces, all of which make perfect gifts or additions to your home décor."

Events kick off at 7:30am with a hearty pancake breakfast at Zenith Park. The Fall Art Show will take place from 10am to 5pm, and lumberjack competitions will begin at 9:20am with categories, including men's and women's axe throw, chainsaw competitions, men's and women's single buck, men's and women's double buck, underhand chop, standing block chop, obstacle choker race, hot saw, and relays. Kids' activities include a wood disc throw and a log roll race.

"There's something for everyone—from the competitive athlete to the art lover," added Davis. "We invite all to come and experience life in Cloudcroft at 9,000 feet with this iconic event. A visit to the Lumberjack Festival and Fall Art Show will definitely prove to be a memorable and exciting experience, and while you're in town, there are many wonderful attractions and activities to make your vacation rewarding and relaxing."

After the festival, visitors can dive into the history of the area and learn about the Mescalero Apaches at the Sacramento Mountains Museum & Pioneer Village, as well as early settlers and the building of the "impossible" railroad. History comes to life with a visit to Pioneer Village, where visitors can experience life as a settler in a log cabin. With plenty of open forest spaces, Cloudcroft is also ideal for hiking, camping, mountain biking, and more.
