NM Environment Department Confirms Lifting of 'Boil Water Advisory' for Vallecitos MDWCA in Rio Arriba- English y espanol

Users are No Longer urged to Boil Water Prior to Drinking

SANTA FE, NM – The New Mexico Environment Department’s (NMED) Drinking Water Bureau is confirming that the Vallecitos MDWCA has met the requirements to lift the “boil water advisory” that was issued on August 12, 2017.

Vallecitos MDWCA was required to issue the advisory after treatment plant complications and bacteriological contamination (E. coli) was detected in drinking water at the water system. The advisory only applied to users served by the Vallecitos MDWCA and did not extend to any of the other surrounding water systems or communities.

The NMED’s Drinking Water Bureau provided compliance oversight and technical support to the Vallecitos MDWCA. The Vallecitos MDWCA also completed a major water system project where an entirely new treatment system was constructed for their community. Additionally, subsequent samples collected from the water system were negative for bacteriological contamination. The Vallecitos MDWCA will be required to maintain a regular monitoring schedule to test the distribution system for the presence of total coliform and E. coli. SANTA FE, NM – La Oficina de Agua Potable del Departamento de Medio Ambiente de Nuevo México (NMED, por sus siglas en inglés) confirma que Vallecitos MDWCA ha cumplido con los requisitos para que se cancele el “Aviso de Hervir el Agua” que se emitió el 12 de agosto de 2017.

Se exigió a Vallecitos MDWCA emitir el aviso después de que se detectara complicaciones en la planta de tratamiento y de que también se detectara la presencia de contaminación bacteriológica (E. coli)en el agua potable de Vallecitos MDWCA. El aviso solo correspondía a los usuarios abastecidos por Vallecitos MDWCAy no se extendió a otros sistemas de distribución de agua ni comunidades circundantes.

La Oficina de Agua Potable de NMED proporcionó a Vallecitos MDWCA supervisión de cumplimiento y apoyo técnico. Vallecitos MDWCA también completó un importante proyecto de sistema de agua donde se construyó un sistema de tratamiento completamente nuevo para su comunidad. Además, las muestras posteriores recogidas del agua de Vallecitos MDWCA dieron negativo para contaminación bacteriológica. Se exigirá a Vallecitos MDWCA que mantenga un programa de monitoreo regular para analizar muestras del sistema de distribución de Vallecitos MDWCA con el fin de detectar la presencia de bacterias coliformes totales y E. coli.
