Recognition from New Mexico Counties

SANTA FE, NM – The Adult Misdemeanor Compliance Accreditation Professional Standards Council awarded San Juan County a three (3) year Certificate of Reaccreditation during the New Mexico Counties Legislative Conference on January 17, 2019 in Santa Fe.

A joint initiative between New Mexico Counties and the New Mexico Municipal League serves as the professional organization to develop and ensure a system of uniform standards for the statewide Misdemeanor Compliance Program. It is based upon valid, reliable research, and exemplary correctional practices. The program promotes socially responsible and humane correctional supervision policies and practices, sound public policies, adherence to ethics within the justice profession, excellence in professional development, innovation, and education, and fostering integral relationships with the communities served.

“San Juan County is to be congratulated on earning reaccreditation for their adult misdemeanor compliance program,” said NMC Executive Director Steve Kopelman. “Their program has been extremely effective and is the gold standard in the state. They are the first program in the state to receive reaccreditation.”

The New Mexico Counties is a non-profit, nonpartisan association representing New Mexico’s 33 counties since 1936. Its mission is to strengthen New Mexico counties’ ability to govern their own affairs and to improve the well-being and quality of life of their constituents.
