ESTANCIA, NM – The Torrance County Commission will take up the protection of Second Amendment rights in Torrance County at a special meeting this coming Monday, February 25 at 9:00 am in the Commission Chambers at the Torrance County Administrative building.

The proposed resolution affirms the Commission’s support of both the Constitution of the State of New Mexico and the United States Constitution’s Second Amendment by creating a “sanctuary” for Second Amendment rights for the citizens of Torrance County. If passed, the resolution would support the decision by County Sheriff Martin Rivera, not to enforce any unconstitutional firearms laws in the County of Torrance.

“The laws being proposed in Santa Fe are largely unenforceable and are violations of both the second and fourth Amendments”, said Torrance County Sheriff Martin Rivera.

The resolution would also prohibit the use of county resources for the purpose of enforcing any law that infringes on the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
