New Mexico Sabor was a top winner at the 12th annual EXHIB-IT! B2B Expo held April 23 at Isleta Resort and Casino.  Commercial businesses and nonprofit organizations competed for up to $6,825 in advertising prizes.

The Albuquerque-based salsa company won the People’s Choice for Best Local Brand in the Commercial Business category.  Other prize categories included Best Local Brand Nonprofit Organization and Best Local Brewery. Three finalists in each category were placed online for open voting by the community in the weeks prior to the event.

New Mexico Sabor owner Carla Gallegos-Ortega says her salsa and her company are unique.  “I know that the taste itself will stand against all the others. The name says it all. “Sabor” means flavor.  It’s all about flavor.” The small business owner launched her company in 2018 and has utilized the resources available from the South Valley Economic Development Center, SCORE, WESST and SBA to help her business grow.  Today, New Mexico Sabor has expanded from one product to four and is in 11 retail locations, with five new locations added soon. They also participate in local grower’s markets and festivals throughout the year. New Mexico Sabor employs two contract workers from Father’s Building Futures and has a culinary intern from the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute.

“The EXHIB-IT! B2BExpo is the state’s largest business-to-business networking event,” says DJ Heckes, event organizer and CEO/Owner of EXHIB-IT! Tradeshow Marketing Experts.  In addition to B2B networking and over 100 booths, the event featured educational roundtables where a dozen local experts provided participants with actionable steps to improve their businesses.
