Guadalupe County, NM – On June 26, 2019 at about 5:58 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on Interstate 40, near mile post 295, east of Cuervo, NM. 

The initial investigation shows a 2019 Chevy Van, driven by a 30-year-old female of St. Louis, MO was traveling west on Interstate 40. For unknown reasons the Chevy left the roadway and struck an unoccupied 2000 Toyota SUV that was parked on the right westbound shoulder. The driver of the Chevy sustained unknown injuries and she was treated on scene by Emergency Personnel. 

A passenger, Mary Lee Kelley (63) also of St. Louis, MO sustained fatal injuries and she was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator. An 18-year-old female passenger sustained unknown injuries and she was flown to the UNM Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. There was a total of six other children passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. All six were transported to a local hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening.     

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and seatbelts appear to have not been properly utilized. No additional information is available.
