The New Mexico Breastfeeding Task Force (NMBTF) is encouraging individuals, employers and organizations to empower parents and enable breastfeeding during World Breastfeeding Week, which runs August 1 – 7, 2019. The Task Force is committed to having New Mexico lead the nation in breastfeeding stats, where mothers and their children experience the health and bonding benefits provided by breastfeeding.

“The New Mexico Breastfeeding Task Force works year-round to promote breastfeeding and support mothers, families, employers, businesses and communities throughout New Mexico,” said Jennifer Mastripolito, NMBTF Executive Director. “World Breastfeeding Week is an opportunity to expand conversations, policies and empowerment for New Mexico families.”

People can get involved by taking the pledge to participate in World Breastfeeding Week at https://worldbreastfeedingweek.org/pledge-form/.  Various chapters of the Breastfeeding Task Force are organizing special events, including The Big Latch in Las Cruces on August 2, and Party In the Park in Aztec on August 3. Additionally, the Taos Chapter of the Breastfeeding Task Force is working with local businesses on a pump room challenge.

Organizations, individuals and communities can request information, presentations or policy updates, become a member or a donor at  https://breastfeedingnm.org/

For those looking to get involved, the Task Force’s website provides information on:

  • Tips to make your workplace or location more breastfeeding friendly
  • A list of baby-friendly hospitals
  • Downloadable guides in English and Spanish on breastfeeding
  • Information for moms and families

“We are committed to a world without barriers to breastfeeding, where breastfeeding is the cultural norm,” Mastripolito added.
