Hidalgo County, NM - On August 9, 2019 at around 8:00 a.m. the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving a 2015 Honda All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) at the intersection of Alada Road and Ponderosa Road near Animas, NM.

The initial investigation indicated the ATV, driven by Jose G Vega (69) of Animas, NM, was travelling west on Ponderosa Road approaching the intersection of Alada Road. For unknown reasons, the ATV failed to yield at the intersection and collided with a 2013 Chevy that was traveling north on Alada Road.

Vega sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased by the Office of the Medical Investigator.  Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.  This case remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
