Albuquerque, NM – August 20, 2019 – As part of the annual weeklong Albuquerque Film & Music Experience (AFMX), the 50th anniversary of Easy Rider will be celebrated with a film event at the historic KiMo Theatre on Friday, September 27 at 8 p.m. The celebration continues with the The Ride to Remember on Saturday, September 28 that will follow the route where part of the movie was filmed. AFMX, Albuquerque’s premier film and music festival, takes place September 24–29.

“With the news of Peter Fonda’s passing on August 16, the Easy Rider events in New Mexico during AFMX will honor the legacies of Peter and Dennis Hopper, who directed and starred in the film, as well as what the film meant to many generations,” said Ivan Wiener, AFMX Executive Director. “We are excited to have hundreds of riders at the event sponsored by Law Tigers and Thunderbird Harley-Davidson.”

Easy Rider follows two young “hippie” bikers on a trip across America in search of a way to lead their lives. Along the way, they encounter bigotry and hatred from small-town communities fearing the non-conformism of the pair. Today the film is held in high esteem as one of the first indie films that rocked the status quo in Hollywood, while transforming the careers of Hopper, Fonda and Jack Nicholson. Tickets for the movie are available at https://www.kimotickets.com/event/345951/easy-rider-50th-anniversary-.

To further enhance the Open Road themed events during the week, The Ride to Remember offers a once-in-a-lifetime celebrity bike run beginning at Thunderbird Harley-Davidson in Albuquerque along the “High Road to Taos” and through areas where the movie was filmed. The ride ends at Dennis Hoppers’ burial site in Ranchos de Taos. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the NMMRO Biker Down Program, and is sponsored by Law Tigers of New Mexico, Thunderbird Harley-Davidson and AFMX. Registration information can be found at https://www.abqfilmx.com/easy-rider-ride-registration. All riders are welcome.

“We are very excited to highlight this important film and celebrate the lives of Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda here in Albuquerque,” added Wiener. “The 7th Annual AFMX is going to be an amazing event featuring movies, workshops, networking events, live music by Dave Grusin and Neil Giraldo, and more.”
