Taos County- On August 28, 2019, the New Mexico State Police Investigation Bureau was called to investigate a homicide in Taos, NM.

During investigation, State Police agents learned on August 27, 2019 in the early morning hours Patrick Larkin left his residence to tend to his livestock on his property when he was shot and killed. Agents identified Gregg Steele as a person of interest in the homicide.  Steele was tracked down and arrested by the Taos County Sheriff’s office and later released on unrelated charges to the investigation. 

A search warrant was completed and executed on Steele’s property and vehicle. Agents discovered evidence of Larkin’s blood located in vehicle. Further investigation, Agents also learned Larkin was shot by a .45 caliber handgun by Steele on his property and Steele took Larkin’s .22 caliber rifle. Steele discarded the handgun and rifle.  

Through the investigation it was learned that Steele did shoot Larkin, and both had previous disputes with each other. 

On September 13, 2019 an arrest warrant was issued for Gregg Steele. Steele was arrested and taken into custody without incident and booked into the Taos County Detention Center. Steele was charged with the following:
