ABIQUIU – With more than 300 days of sunshine, New Mexico is idea for capturing solar energy, especially in remote locations for a wide-array of uses.

New Mexico State University’s Cooperative Extension Service’s Rio Arriba County office is hosting a beginning solar class for participants to learn the basic techniques for using solar.The class will be from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Rio Arriba Rural Event Center on Hwy 554 in Abiquiu.

“Solar power is idea for pumping water from remote wells, springs, creeks or powering small appliances,” said Donald Martinez, NMSU Extension agricultural agent in Rio Arriba County. “The workshop is for beginners wanting to explore how to use solar energy, which is a great way to utilize our sunshine.”

The workshop presenter will be Greg Crabtree, who has worked with the New Mexico Solar Energy Association and has helped coordinate New Mexico Solar Fiesta in Albuquerque for many years.
