Pecos, NM - On October 19, 2019 at about 9:08 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on State Road 63 near mile post 2 in Pecos, New Mexico.
The initial investigation shows a 1994 Ford truck, driven by Macario Garcia-Lopez (50) of Pecos, NM was travelling south on State Road 63 near mile post 2. For reasons still under investigation, the Ford left the roadway, overturned, landing on the roof of the vehicle. The passenger, Eleanor Valencia (53) of Pecos, NM was ejected from the vehicle. Eleanor Valencia sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
Garcia-Lopez sustained minor injuries and was treated by emergency medical personnel on scene.
Garcia-Lopez was booked into the San Miguel County Adult Detention Center on the following charges:
- Homicide by Vehicle 66-8-101 (A) & (C)
- Driving while under the influence of an intoxicating liquor and or drug 66-8-102 (7th or subsequent offense)
- Tampering with Evidence 30-22-5 (B)
- Careless Driving 66-8-114
- Drivers must be licensed 66-5-2
