April 8, 2020 - Santa Fe, New Mexico— Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the world-renowned International Folk Art Market (IFAM) is canceling its 17th annual July event until 2021. The decision was made by the IFAM Board of Directors.

“The health and safety of our artists, our guests and volunteers, our staff, and the Santa Fe community is our number one priority. With heavy hearts, the Board of Directors and the staff have decided that it is in everyone’s best interest to cancel this year’s event,” said Stuart Ashman, IFAM CEO. “This was a decision that was nearly impossible to make, and we know it will be disappointing for the artists, the visitors and the entire Santa Fe community.”

All artists accepted into the 2020 event will be automatically accepted into the 2021 event.

“We are looking forward to seeing everyone in July 2021. In the meantime we are putting our energy and creativity into developing opportunities that support our artists this year,” Ashman added.

As a celebration that attracts tens of thousands of visitors, and artists from around the world, IFAM is one of Santa Fe’s largest events and a major economic driver for the Santa Fe region. The event is also a huge revenue source for worldwide artists. Since its inception, the market has generated more than $34 million in revenue, with the majority going back home with artists from around the globe.

“The Market has an economic impact of $12.5 million to the Santa Fe community, which includes restaurants, hotels, car rentals and shopping. We are aware of the effects our canceling will have on both the local business community that depends on our event, as well as on the artists,” Ashman added.
