Taos County, NM - On June 28, 2020, at about 7:00 p.m. the New Mexico State Police, responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on Calle Martinez and NM State Road 240 south of Taos.

The initial investigation indicates a 2013 Ford passenger vehicle driven by Desiderio Garcia (48) of El Prado, NM left the roadway and struck a tree near Calle Martinez and NM State Road 240.  A passenger in the vehicle, Lisa Marie Day (39) of Taos suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.  Garcia was arrested for Aggravated DWI and booked into the Taos County Detention Center.

Alcohol was a contributing factor in this crash and seatbelts do not appear to have been properly utilized.  This crash is still under investigation by the New Mexico State Police with assistance from the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
