Bosque Redondo Historic Site, Fort Sumner, NM

T.I.M.E. NOW: Temporary Installations Made for the Environment.

New Mexico Arts and New Mexico Historic Sites seek to commission four (4) temporary public art projects inspired by a new exhibition to open in 2021 at Bosque Redondo Memorial and the rich history of the area.

Inspired by a letter from a group of 17 Navajo students and their chaperones who visited the site in 1990, the exhibit has been 30 years in the making. In collaboration with the Navajo Nation and the Mescalero Apache Tribe, the exhibit was created to tell a more truthful account of the history of Fort Sumner and the Bosque Redondo Indian Reservation.

Individual artists and artist teams are encouraged to apply. Navajo and Mescalero artists are strongly encouraged to apply. The local selection committee requests proposals that consider one of four circles located at the entrance of the site: the four circles represent the four sacred mountains/cardinal directions for Navajo Nation.

New Mexico Arts has allocated $10,000 for the project, with $2,500 per artist/artist team.
