SANTA FE - Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the latest round of July unemployment figures. At 4.5 percent, New Mexico's unemployment rate is the worst of any state in the nation. Shortly after the numbers were released, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham released a statement calling the high rate "proof positive that the work [her] administration has doneā€¦is yielding real results."

Senate Republican Leader, Senator Greg Baca (District 29-Belen), released the following statement regarding the updated figures:

"This is politics at its worst. Not only is the Governor taking pride in yet another failure, she continues her reckless use of state resources to spout her reelection rhetoric. The real story here is that New Mexico has the highest unemployment rate of any state in the country, and according to analysts, we are currently on track to experience slower than national economic growth. Add to this the fact that over 1,000 New Mexico restaurants closed in the past two years, and it is clear that our state is still suffering under this Governor's failed leadership."
