“In memory of SFC Antonio Rey ‘Rod’ Rodriguez”

LAS CRUCES – Saturday, May 20, 2023, the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), distinguished guests and community members held the official dedication of Interstate 10 Eastbound from milepost 143.69 to milepost 145.43, Interstate 10 Westbound from milepost 145.43 to milepost 143.69, and Interstate 25 from milepost 0 to milepost 0.19 in Doña Ana County (I-10/I-25 Interchange), as the “SFC Antonio Rey ‘ROD” Rodriguez Memorial Interchange.  

Guadalupe Rodriguez Jaramillo, President of the SFC Antonio Rey “ROD” Rodriguez foundation, met with Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales and executive staff members of the NMDOT to formally request, on behalf of the foundation, the dedication of the I-10/I-25 Interchange in memory of United States Army Sergeant First Class (SFC) Antonio Rey ‘ROD” Rodriguez.

Thursday, May 18, 2023, the New Mexico State Transportation Commission adopted and signed into place RESOLUTION NO. 2023-02 (May), as a permanent reminder to honor SFC Rodriguez and to memorialize the sacrifice he made in service to the United States and the State of New Mexico.

“This is a very special recognition to serve as a reminder to all travelers leaving or entering New Mexico, that heroes are born, raised, and memorialized in the State of New Mexico” said Guadalupe Rodriguez Jaramillo, mother of SFC Rodriguez. “Antonio’s dedication to protect, defend, and serve this country will always be remembered, his life and precious memories will always be celebrated, and his sacrifice will never be forgotten”.

Trent Doolittle, the NMDOT Deputy Secretary, said “I want to give my appreciation for the service of SFC Rodriguez, and for the patience and cooperation of his loved ones during this process. It is an honor to have worked with the family of SFC Rodriguez to get this dedication finalized.”
