Guests to the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces on June 17 will enjoy a variety of demonstrations and workshops during the annual Fiber Extravaganza.
 
 What: The third-annual Fiber Extravaganza. Fiber arts demonstrations – including wool spinning, knitting, weaving, quilting, basket weaving, and natural dyeing -- are featured from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 17. Workshops are added to this year’s event, including basket weaving, needle binding, Colcha embroidery, beginning stitching, painting on silk, the use of color, and tatting. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, and $3 for children 4 to 17. The fee includes all of the Museum’s regular offerings.  Who: The New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum is partnering with several organizations, including Southwest Regional Spinners Club, My Place Jewell, Weaving for Justice, Las Colcheras Quilt Guild, Las Cruces Knitting Guild, High Canyon Weavers and Spinners, ThreadBear, USDA Southwest Cotton Ginning Research Laboratory, and the Dona Ana Arts Council. The event is supported by the Friends of the Farm & Ranch Museum.

 When: The demonstration portion of Fiber Extravaganza is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 17. The workshops begin on June 16 and some are on June 17.

 Why: From Navajo weaving to Colcha embroidery, New Mexico has a long and unique history when it comes to fiber arts. This event showcases the history, skill, and importance of fiber arts through the talented demonstrators who will take part. The workshops are an opportunity to learn some of these skills.
