As Aggie fans prepare for the fall athletic season at New Mexico State University, another Aggie-branded beverage has joined the mix and will make its official debut in late August.

In collaboration with Little Toad Creek Brewery and Distillery and Mixed Up Cocktail Co., the new “Aggie-Rita” will hit the shelves and officially be introduced to the public during a launch event from 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Little Toad Creek’s downtown Las Cruces location, 119 N. Main St.

The canned spirit is best described as a raspberry margarita that tastes like a freshly made lime margarita with real raspberry fruit blended in.

"The raspberry and lime provide a tangy complement to the earthy distilled agave spirits (tequila) with a touch of orange peel, just lightly sweetened with agave nectar,” said Teresa Dahl-Bredine, co-owner of Little Toad Creek and Mixed Up Cocktail Co. “We use all-natural ingredients with no preservatives, and the cocktails are 6% alcohol by volume. We were excited to tweak the classic margarita we already make by adding the raspberry puree, which is the perfect crimson color for the Aggies.

”Mario Moccia, director of athletics at NMSU, said he anticipates this will be a very popular offering among NMSU’s growing slate of licensed products, including Pistol Pete’s 1888 Ale from Bosque Brewing and Pistol Pete’s Six Shooter Rye Whiskey from Dry Point Distillers. Moccia added that the revenue from these partnerships supports all 400 student-athletes – and local businesses also see the benefits.

“This is where the win-win comes in,” Moccia said. “New Mexicans love to support New Mexico products and with Little Toad Creek in Las Cruces and Mixed Up Cocktail Co. in Deming and Silver City, it is definitely a southern New Mexico product.”

“Little Toad Creek has been building our community in Las Cruces since 2018,” Dahl-Bredine added. “We are excited by the visibility this collaboration with NMSU will lend to our company and brands. While our brewery and distillery originally started in Silver City, Las Cruces feels like a permanent home now, with over 30 employees in Las Cruces of our total 80 employees companywide.

”Aggie fans can soon find the Aggie-Rita at Little Toad Creek in downtown Las Cruces, and Sodexo will carry the canned spirits at Fulton Center on the third floor during football games and at the NMSU Golf Course.

In addition to these locations, the product will be distributed by Admiral Beverage and available at local liquor stores, restaurants, and bars, including Toucan Market, Kelly Liquors, Aggie Memorial Stadium, Eagle Qwik Mart on Picacho Avenue, FARMesilla, the Amador Patio Bar and Grill, Andele’s Doghouse, and more.
