New Mexico State University will host students from six other universities in the Southwest for the STTE Foundation’s Southwest Collegiate Cup, sponsored by Microsoft.


 
The event aims to empower university students with entrepreneurial aspirations, and serve as a catalyst for innovation and exchanging ideas. Teams will compete for recognition and prizes. It will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Corbett Center Student Union. Attendance is free and open to the public. Tickets are available online here.


 
“Arrowhead Center is honored to partner with Joseph Sapien and the STTE Foundation to host this extraordinary regional competition on our campus,” said Kathy Hansen, director and CEO of Arrowhead Center.


 
“We’re excited to offer this unique opportunity to college students pursuing startups. Many of the colleges were super happy to be invited to this first-of-its-kind competition. We want to help startups grow in the Southwest and turn this region into a super ecosystem for innovative ventures, just like Silicon Valley,” said Sapien, the executive director of the El Paso-based STTE Foundation.


 
The cup’s judges will be J.J. Childress of Microsoft, Jack Loveridge of the Stanford Angels Texas Chapter, Alejandro Muñoz of No Border Ventures, Leo Romero of the MCA Foundation, and Hope Shimabuku of the United States Patent and Trademark Office.


 
Students from Colorado State University, NMSU, New Mexico Tech, Texas Tech University, the University of New Mexico, the University of Texas at El Paso and the University of Texas Permian Basin will be competing at the cup.


 
The Southwest Collegiate Cup is part of the foundation’s Día de los Muertos: Rise of the Startups Pitch Competition, with events taking place at the Hotel Paso Del Norte in downtown El Paso. For more information, visit https://sttefoundation.org/ddlm/ .
