NM Reforestation Center Receives Permanent Home in Mora

New seedling nursery and research center to scale up production to 5 million seedlings per year 
  
Santa Fe – New Mexico is taking a major step in the critical process of restoring forests that have been devastated by wildfires and impacted by climate change by identifying a site for constructing a new reforestation center.  

Earlier this month, the New Mexico Reforestation Center Board chose the site of the current John T. Harrington (JTH) Forestry Research Center in Mora as the home for the new facility.

NM Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department

dylan fugeEnergy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department gets new deputy secretary 

SANTA FE, NM – Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has named Dylan Fuge Deputy Secretary of the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD). Mr. Fuge, who had been serving as acting deputy secretary since October 15, 2023, assumes his new position on November 25, 2023.  

A Santa Fe native, Mr. Fuge has filled various roles within EMRD, most recently serving as Director of the department’s Oil Conservation Division (OCD). He will continue to lead that division in an acting capacity until a new director is appointed. Prior to becoming OCD Director, Mr. Fuge was EMNRD’s General Counsel, a position responsible for advising the Secretary and various divisions on the complex natural resources and regulatory issues that routinely come before the department.

The deputy secretary is the department’s chief operating officer, overseeing its administrative functions, staffing and budget management, in addition to helping shape policy and legislative priorities.

NMSU students win awards, scholarships at the Great Minds in STEM conference

Nicholas Grijalva is one of more than 30 New Mexico State University students who participated in the Great Minds in Stem conference this fall. He was named a Computing Alliance of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (CAHSI) scholar and will receive a scholarship. He was also recognized as the graduate CAHSI advocate for the Southwest Region. NMSU is a founding member of the organization, which serves to accelerate the achievements of Hispanics in computing.

Traffic Alert Updated overnight roadway closure for bridge testing

 LAS CRUCES - The New Mexico Department of Transportation District One office will have overnight roadway closure in place for bridge testing on I-10, University Ave., and S. Main St. being completed by Saturday, November 18, 2023.

To maintain the integrity of the I-10 bridge over University and S. Main Street in Las Cruces, bridge deck testing will be in place from Friday, November 17, 2023, into the early morning on Saturday, November 18, 2023.  Closures will be in place with a detour from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The planned overnight closure is in place to lessen the impact on travelers. The NMDOT apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks you for your patience.

Outdoor Marketing Grant Accepting Applications

The Outdoor Recreation Division announces a new marketing grant for outdoor-focused programs and events
SANTA FE, N.M. - A new grant opportunity has been released by the Outdoor Recreation Division (ORD) to assist with marketing outdoor recreation ventures, announced Economic Development Department Acting Cabinet Secretary Jon Clark. 

The pilot program is run by ORD, a division of the Economic Development Department, and applications will be open until December 31, 2023.
