Group of NMSU faculty named among top scientists worldwide

The number of scientists from New Mexico State University named to an elite list has grown since last year, according to the list’s publishers.


 
The list of the top 2 percent of scientists worldwide is regularly updated by Stanford University and Elsevier, a publishing company that specializes in scientific, technical and medical content. This year, 40 NMSU researchers have been named to the list, compared to 25 last year.


 
“I expected the number of NMSU faculty in the top 2 percent of scientists worldwide to grow. We have made a committed to grow our research enterprise,” said Luis Cifuentes, NMSU vice president for research, creativity and economic development. “Brilliant new hires and long overdue investment in existing faculty and infrastructure are making a difference as evidenced by the list. I am truly honored and privileged to work for the faculty, scholars, research scientists and artists of NMSU.”

A study shows that NM is in the top 10 of states for veterans to succeed in business

new study found Virginia is the No. 1 best state for veterans to succeed in business, followed by Wyoming and Oregon.

On Veterans Day, we honor those who served in the military and remind ourselves to support their success in civilian life and business. While veteran-owned business dropped from 11% of all businesses in 2014 to 8.1% in 2020, veterans earned a record salary of $50,476 in 2022, compared to $38,254 for non-veterans. There is more work to do, but some states deserve special recognition this year.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – In collaboration with the New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s Office (Governor’s Office), the New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) will hold a series of virtual workshops in November to help prepare prospective applicants to the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) Program. Approximately $3.6 million in grant funding has been made available through the program. These virtual workshops will mark the beginning of the request for proposals for the RFSI Program.

Entrepreneurs and innovators from across the state came together to showcase their groundbreaking ideas. After fierce competition, three outstanding startups emerged as the top contenders.

Republican Legislators Issue Joint Statement on Dedication of Officer Darian Jarrott Memorial

DEMING — Today, the memorial for Officer Darian Jarrott was dedicated in Deming two years after he was killed in the line of duty. The memorial, funded in part by capital outlay dollars appropriated by Senator Crystal Brantley (R-Elephant Butte), honors the life and legacy of Officer Jarrott and his family. 

Senator Brantley, Representative Luis Terrazas (R-Silver City), and Representative Jenifer Jones (R-Deming) issued the following statement regarding today’s ceremony: 

“We join our community today in solemn resolve to never let the sacrifice of Officer Jarrott be forgotten. He paid the ultimate price for the peace and safety we enjoy as citizens, and it was an honor to dedicate this memorial alongside his family and community.”

ENMU Celebrates 55th Annual Pops Concert

Portales, NM – November 6, 2023– The Eastern New Mexico University Friends of Music welcomes the ENMU community to the 55th annual Pops Concert on Saturday, November 11, at 7 p.m. at the ballroom in the University Campus Union Building.

“The concert will feature the talents of the ENMU Swanee Singers performing music from Broadway classics, including White Christmas, Hairspray, and She Loves Me, among others,” said Dustin Seifert, ENMU Department of Music Chair.  “The ENMU Wind Symphony will perform music selected based on an Americana theme in recognition of Veteran’s Day.  The concert will include a performance of Morton Gould’s classic Santa Fe Saga and much, much more.”
