Elvira Vasquez Madrid, 94, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014 at her residence.

Visitation will be at Bright Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with reciting of the rosary at 6:00 pm with Deacon Bill Holguin. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Francis Newman Center with Father Tony Basso officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery.

Elvira was born October 14, 1919 in Juarez, Mexico to Mike Vasquez and Bernadina Castaneda Vasquez. She was a resident of Silver City most of her life. She married Edmundo S. Madrid on May 10, 1942. She worked at The White House on Broadway St. as a clerk and J.C. Penny's for several years. She was a wonderful seamstress she made most of her daughters clothes and wedding dresses. Elvira was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Elvira is survived by one son Eddie V. Madrid (Sylvia) of Silver City, three daughters Elizabeth Mudry, Emily Escamilla, and Edith Wood (Glenn) all of Silver City. Grandchildren Edmund Madrid (Cory), Eric Madrid (Stephanie), Michael Madrid (Kristen), Aaron Madrid, Nichol Orrantia (Steve), Malu Aguirre (Charisma), Carlen Aguirre her fiancé Jeremy Montoya, Mark Mudry his fiancé Candace Roth, Crystal Mudry, Leonard Escamilla, Joshua Torres (Jessica), and Joslin Potter (Daren). She has twenty-eight great- grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Three brothers; Ralph "Nacho" Vasquez (Mary), George Vasquez (Minnie), and Danny Vasquez (Frances) of Silver City and one sister Eva Hernandez (Jim) of Arenas Valley.

She is preceded in death by her parents Mike and Bernadina Vasquez, husband Edmundo S. Madrid, one grandson Robert Joshua Torres, and two brothers Mike and Rudy Vasquez.

Pallbearers are Edmund Madrid, Michael Madrid, Eric Madrid, Aaron Madrid, Joshua Torres, Mark Mudry and Malu Aguirre. Honorary pallbearers are the rest of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild.
