Jose E. "Milongo" Muñiz, 85, a resident of Bayard, NM entered eternal rest Friday, May 30, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born August 11, 1928 in Fierro, NM to Jose Muñiz and Theodora Espinosa.

Milongo proudly served his country with an Honorable Discharge. He later went on to retire from Kennecott Copper Mines as a truck driver. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, having gatherings and Sunday dinners surrounded by his family. Being outdoors hunting, fishing was something he enjoyed a lot. Some of Milongo's favorite hobbies were spending time at the Casinos', playing pool and playing cards. He adored his loving wife Consuelo. They were married for 62 years until his passing and spent every single day together. He enjoyed each and every minute with his wife and family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to him, he loved them very much. It brought a smile to his face every time he would receive a visit from them. His nephew, Felix Muñiz was very special to him and was considered more like a son. He was always by his side with lots of love and care. When Milongo fell ill at his end, his grandchildren, Jessica, Rosemary and Juan Carlos were also by his side taking care of him till his passing. Milongo lived a very blessed life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Consuelo "Connie" Muñiz of the family home; two sons, Ray Muñiz of Silver City; Teddy Muñiz and wife Mary of Hurley; one daughter, Christina Guzman of Silver City; ten grandchildren, Luis Alfredo Jr, Jose and Juan Carlos Roacho, Valerie Arizaga, Rosemary Guzman, Jessica Chavez, Stephany Muñiz Benavidez, Victoria Muñiz Bustamante, Theodore Jr. and Melissa Muñiz; twenty great-grandchildren, Vanessa Aguilera, Julian, Jasmine and Isaac Roacho, Dominque Escobar, Michaela Roacho, Brittany, Robert and Noah Rowland, Adan, Gilbert and Armando Arizaga, Kiana Villa, Arturo and Arissa Chavez, Matthew Pacheco, Adrian James and Destiny Benavidez, Anahi and Jazlyn Ninthala; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Patsy Roacho; seven brothers, Guadalupe, Mike, Blas, Pedro and Epolito Muniz, Joaquin and Felipito Campos; one sister, Simonita Campos.

Visitation will be Friday, June 6 at 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil and holy rosary to begin at 6pm with Deacon David Castañon reciting. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated Saturday, June 7 at 10am at Infant Jesus Shrine in Hurley with Father Robert Becerra officiating. Concluding service interment will follow at Hurley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Luis, Jose, Juan Carlos and Julian Roacho, Theodore Muniz, Arturo Chavez, Gregory and Robert Rowland. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
