Magdalena M. Sanchez, 79, passed away Sunday August 31, 2014 in the comfort of her home in Columbus.

Visitation will begin Friday morning at 9 o’clock at the Holy Family Catholic Mission in Columbus where a prayer vigil will begin at 3 o’clock that afternoon. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 4 o’clock with Fr. Ron Machado officiating. Cremation will follow.

Magdalena was born May 28, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois to Alejandro and Carmelita Hernandez who had originated from Salamayca, Guanajuato, Mexico. She was raised in Chicago where she met and married Andrew Sanchez and to this union were born six children: Guadalupe, Andrew II, Teresa, Maria, Eduardo and Esperanza.

She was mainly a homemaker and after the death of her husband on January 19, 2000 she continued with his work for the betterment of the Columbus community at the Andrew Sanchez Memorial Youth Center, The Columbus Historical Society, American Legion, Library, Roadrunner Food Program, Salvation Army of Luna County, the Loaves and Fishes Program and many, many others. Needless to say, her love was for the well being of her family and the community of Columbus, she will be greatly missed. Magdalena was also very active at Holy Family Catholic Mission in Columbus.

She is survived by her children; 20 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren who she greatly loved.
