Carolyn Laverne Torres, 80, was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, on November 19, 1933 to Carl Shores and Pauline Taber Shores. She passed peacefully on September 14, 2014 in Las Vegas, NV. She was a long time resident of Silver City, NM. 

Visitation will begin at 10 o’clock in the morning on Friday, September 19, 2014, at Baca’s Funeral Chapels. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 in the morning. Concluding services and interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Rev. David Goble, Pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Cliff officiating 

For health reasons she had resided in Boulder City, NV, for the past four years. She was a bookkeeper by trade, majority of her bookkeeping career in the livestock marketing business. In 1979, she and her husband Henry Torres relocated to Silver City, at which time she became involved in real estate ranch sales. After her time in real estate she went to work as chief deputy in the Grant County Assessor’s Office. Four years later she ran for and was elected Grant County Assessor. She served Grant County in the Assessor’s office for 16 years. She retired in 1998. Carolyn had a tremendous work ethic, a quest for knowledge and was always willing to share her knowledge and resources with those she worked with. Carolyn was a loving and devoted mother to her children and grandchildren, having been a guiding influence to her Silver City granddaughters. She enjoyed informal gatherings in her home with her many friends and family. 

She is survived by her husband Henry, who considered her a true partner in life, and by her sons Steve Wells (Ally) and family, Michael Wells and family, all of Boulder City, NV. She is also survived by her daughter Paula Torres and family, of Silver City, NM. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Pauline Shores, one son Richard Wells, and her brother Sonny Shores. 

Serving as casket bearers will be; Sonny Shores, Josh Garrett, Paul Ciano, Teddy Martinez, Jeff Trinkle, Eli Estrada, Glen Taylor, Randy Villa, Pat Greenman, Ellen Brabham, Wilburn Trotter, Mark Cantrell and Robert Parra. Family requests memorial contributions to be made to El Refugio in her honor. Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels.
