Phyllis Lucas, 85, longtime Deming resident passed away on Friday October 10, 2014 at her home.

A memorial service will be today, Monday October 13, 2014 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at Baca's Funeral Chapel with Frank Van Gundy presiding. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca's Mimbres Crematory.

She was born to Raymond and Marie Wilson O'Dell on May 8, 1929 in Alpine, Texas. The family moved to El Paso when Phyllis was about three years old. After graduating from Ysleta High School, Phyllis worked at State National Bank in El Paso until she married Dan Lucas on Sept. 17, 1953 in Carrizozo and moved to New Mexico.

Phyllis was employed as Director of Public Relations and Marketing at Mimbres Valley Bank until her retirement in 1984. She was active in the community civic affairs and the love of the ranch life working along her husband and the family involvement as the family grew were her love and joy. She spoke of her fortune in moving away from the city to enjoy true quality of life in small town America and the ranch.

She is survived by her husband, Dan Lucas of the home; daughter, Vicki Lucas of Gilbert, AZ; son, Dan Lucas, Jr. and his wife Martha of Deming; 4 grandchildren, Jaime Wood of Deming, Shea Stanek and husband, Karl of Chandler, AZ; Matt Lucas and wife Jessie of Las Cruces; Vanessa Andrews and husband Matt of Navasota, TX; 3 great-grandsons, Skyler Stanek, Cody Stanek and Adrian Stanek of Chandler, AZ; 1 great-granddaughter, Dacey Andrews; a sister, Rayma and husband Jimmy Angelos of El Paso and her "sister too", Nellie Jones of Ruidoso and several nieces.
