Garza-05Garza-03-copyWhen God's archangels sounded their trumpets announcing Socorro "Cora" Centeno Chavez Garza's name she triumphantly answered to our Lord Jesus calling her to his kingdom, the paradise and Promised Land and mansions where spiritually we will dwell with Him forever and ever.

Cora was born February 23, 1925 in Silver City and was raised in Santa Rita. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Hector Garza of Morgan Hill, California, her parents Porfirio and Adalberta Chavez, her daughter Belinda Chavez Soliz; her brothers, Gregorio "Gori" Chavez, Nicolas Chavez and Gavino Gallardo; her sisters Socorrito Chavez, Martina Lardizabal, Eulalia "Eula" Hernandez.

She is survived by her son Louis Angel "Sonny" Chavez of Sandia Park, New Mexico; her sister Carmen Chavez Swann of Morgan Hill, California and her brother Macario "Maca" Chavez of Santa Clara. Her granddaughter Marisa Bernadette Esqueda and great granddaughter Marysa Rose Esqueda of Silver City.

Cora was raised in Santa Rita where she tended to her Grandmother Leandra's cows and goats taking them out to pasture, milking them and selling the milk. She would also help elderly neighbors clean their homes and yards. Socorro worked for Kennecott Copper Corporation building the railroad tracks during World War II. Later she worked at Hillcrest General Hospital as a nurse. She then ventured off to San Jose, California where she landed a job with Lockheed Missile Aero Space Corporation as a purchasing agent coordinating projects for space programs Gemini, Apollo and Ranger and other top secret projects for 35 years and then retired.

Upon retiring Cora and Hector loved to travel with Knights of Columbus Brotherhood Order to various cities and states attending celebrations. She enjoyed driving up from San Juan Bautista to San Francisco on El Camino Real visiting missions, chapels, shrines and Churches, buying religious articles and passing them to friends and family.

Cora enjoyed every day life, her friends and her family. She will be greatly missed by all who had a chance to know her. She will be especially missed by her Son, Sonny, family and friends.

Services are entrusted to Terrazas Funeral Chapels in Santa Clara, New Mexico. Rosary will be recited by Ricky Sedillo at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2014. The Mass will be officiated by Father Roberto Becerra at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Santa Clara Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hanover Cemetery.
