Joan E. Canady, 84, a longtime Deming resident, passed away Friday October 10, 2014 at Mimbres Memorial Nursing Home.

A Memorial Service celebrating Joan's life will be announced at a later date.

Joan was born August 21, 1930 in Scottsdale, Arizona to George Frank Coldwell and Grace Morrison. Joan worked for the Deming Public School System for 25 years including one year at the business office, one year as secretary at Smith Elementary School and 23 years as secretary at Bell Elementary School. After her retirement in 1987 Joan served as a volunteer in many many community services. She was a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a member of the Dessert Daslers Red Hat Society.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Sheri and husband Hershel Carmichael of Causey, NM; 3
grand-daughters Shannon Carmichael, Kelly Long of Houston, Texas and Lea and husband Robert Henry of Montgomery, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Colton and Grace Henry of Montgomery, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Canady, her parents, a brother, Frankie Coldwell and sister, Mary Beth Fetty.

Joan loved the Deming Community and being involved in all aspects of volunteer services and being a part of so many lives from childhood to adult hood.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Mimbres Valley Hospice.
